The suburb was initially developed in the 1970s however new residential development areas predominantly in the form of the ‘Ocean Crest’ estate development and the ‘Bayshore Gardens’ estate development have revitalised the suburb.

The suburb is positioned between Golden Bay to the north and Madora Bay to the south and currently has basic community infrastructure, including a small neighbourhood shopping centre and local primary school. Singleton is located between the Mandurah and Warnbro train stations, providing rail transport to the Perth CBD. Rail access to the CBD may be improved in the future via new train terminals at either Karnup or Lakelands, depending on government initiatives.

All other major infrastructure can be found in the broader Rockingham and Mandurah districts, including the regional Shopping Centres in and around Mandurah, Golf Courses, and Beaches. A new shopping centre and retail precinct is planned within ‘The Vista’ Estate, which is located immediately east of Singleton, in the suburb of Karnup.

City of Rockingham is a sprawling local authority, having been established in the 1920s as a small fishing town. Its laid back atmosphere has made it popular with holiday makers for generations. Since the 1970s Rockingham has become increasingly popular, increasing from some 109,000 residents in 2011 to approximately 134,000 residents in 2016. Rockingham has natural attractions in the form of beaches such as Warnbro Sound and Cape Peron.

The City of Rockingham has a range of employment as avenues, in expanding retail, the Garden Island Naval Base and the Kwinana Industrial Strip.
