Located at 105 Clarendon Street, Southbank, Shadow Play holds the corner of the intersection of City Road and Clarendon Street. Both are major arterials of Southbank, thereby highlighting the importance of the building’s presence along each of these vistas. The relationship between the subject site and its location, have contributed heavily to the design response. The proposed development is intended to make a significant, positive impact on its surroundings and greater context, responding to a careful and considered analysis of its urban site.
The proposed facade treatment to the streetscape of the development shall be high ground floor volume; wrapping the corner of City Road and Clarendon Street. This will create a premier commercial address and vibrant active edge. The podium design is activated through residential apartments to the landmark iconic corner of the building with the remainder working as a semi-transparent metal-screened facade that allows for the highly effective natural ventilation of the carpark. The residential tower takes into consideration the powerful geometry of the site, both existing and proposed surrounding developments, along with local climatic conditions of the sun and wind to maximise amenity to the apartments. The southwest and southeast facades deal with similar climatic conditions and are articulated in a smooth sculptural form to passively manage the environmental wind, provide excellent natural ventilation of single side apartments, and offer excellent natural light and views.
